Fusion: We Cannot Afford Tightened Restrictions

Fusion Superplex taking a $50,000 blow following the cancellation of New Year’s Eve celebrations. The CEO of the entertainment center says they can’t afford further restrictions.

Fusion Superplex cannot endure tighter restrictions, according to CEO Carlos Foulkes.

His comments come one day after Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Michael Darville suggested tighter restrictions are on the way.

In recent days, The Bahamas has seen a spike in COVID-19 cases, with the lion’s share on New Providence.

Health officials say the evidence suggests that the newly discovered, more transmissible Omicron variant is in country.

In light of this, the government announced that all New Year’s Eve celebrations are cancelled. However, hotels will proceed with their events.

Foulkes said the cancellation has impacted revenue greatly.

Foulkes adds, the entertainment center could’ve survived off of that income for weeks.

He said it would’ve also helped to pay salaries.

Foulkes added that his executive team has been working with the Ministry of Health to ensure the facility remains compliant.

Since reopening, Foulkes said they’ve increased the staff complement to mainly assist with crowd control.
