GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Starting July 1, the Bahamas Customs Department will increase international inbound and outbound fees for aircraft across the country. The news surprised some pilots in Grand Bahama, who say this will impact their careers and the tourism sector.

Private pilot Peter Scobin shared that the new fees make it difficult for him to fly. Commercial pilot and flight instructor Jamaal Johnson said the increase is a hard pill to swallow and will hurt the aviation sector. Pilot Ricardo Munnings said there was no consultation with pilots, calling it unfair. Scobin noted that the increase is a lot for Grand Bahamians, especially after Hurricane Dorian.
