NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Three years ago, the worst storm in history hit The Bahamas leaving unprecedented destruction and turmoil that would forever change these islands. Abaco and Grand Bahama the worst impacted.

As we prepare to mark the third anniversary of Hurricane Dorian this week, we go back to these islands as the road to recovery continues on.

Now, we know residents in East Grand Bahama experienced what many would describe as the brunt of Hurricane Dorian’s wrath. Years later, obviously, the storm’s devastating impact lives on.

High Rock resident, Ishmael Laing says September 2, 2019 started off as a beautiful day as he and his neighbors prepared for what was to come. He says he chose to stay at home in East End having survived storms there before. However, this storm was like no other.

Laing says he fought to help his disabled wife who was almost swept away by water that had risen up to her neck. And, with the storm surge came raging gusts of wind.

Debris filled their home, as the Laing’s endured the storm for nearly 19 hours.
