GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Governor General Her Excellency Cynthia Pratt delivered the speech from the throne Wednesday, laying out the government’s priorities for the country, including economic growth, technology, energy reform, housing, and improvements to the justice system.

The speech also highlighted continued re-development plans for Grand Bahama, so we spoke with a few Grand Bahama professionals who say they paid close attention to the address.

Attorney Thomas Dean says he supports many of the government’s goals, particularly the focus on the family islands and Grand Bahama, and that he was encouraged by discussion surrounding the relationship between the government and the Grand Bahama Port Authority.

However, for environmentalist Joseph Darville, he says that he wanted to hear a more aggressive plan for protecting the country’s coastal environments.

Then, for media personality Fred Sturrup, he says the address offered hope for many Bahamians.

Meanwhile, attorney Constance McDonald K.C. says the speech did a solid job of outlining the government’s vision for the country, and also reflected on Prime Minister Philip Davis and his years spent in Grand Bahama as a lawyer, saying she believes he has a genuine love for the island and its people.
