GBPA And Doctors Hospital Team Up For Better Healthcare

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – If you live in Grand Bahama or recently visited the island you may have passed this building on the Mall Drive where construction is ongoing, well this is Doctors Hospital Grand Bahama. 

It’s a project that’s been in the making for some three years now. We spoke with the Assistant Vice President of Doctors Hospital Grand Bahama Kendra Stirrup who says they’ve spent over 25m dollars.

While things may appear quiet on the outside, construction inside is in full swing officials took us on an in-depth tour.

Explaining how the design was developed with input from key stakeholders to ensure a state-of-the-art facility.

Given Grand Bahama’s Hurricane-prone environment, the building’s structure was also carefully planned with safety in mind.

Stirrup telling us, the Grand Bahama Port Authority has been instrumental in making this project a success. She reveals, the GBPA sold their shares in the property and donated the proceeds to help fund the hospital’s construction.

And in addition to the main hospital, Doctors HospItal has already opened several clinics across the island. The Kavala Medical Center in Eight Mile Rock was the first to launch.

And there’s also the loyalty advantage membership program also known as LAMP.

According to the Senior VP, The Grand Bahama project is part of Doctors Hospital’s Eagle Island Initiative. A vision of President and CEO Dr. Charles Diggiss to bring accessible healthcare to islands beyond New Providence.

Now Doctors Hospital Grand Bahama is expected to be fully complete and open to the public by the end of the year.
