NASSAU , BAHAMAS – For more than 65 years, the Bahamas National Trust has protected the country’s natural heritage, managing more than two dozen national parks across the islands.

Now, the trust is launching a fundraising campaign to strengthen its conservation efforts and help preserve The Bahamas’ natural treasures for future generations.

The Bahamas National Trust is counting on public support to help protect the country’s 33 national parks, from coral reefs and wetlands to forests and endangered wildlife.

Through its Giving Tuesday campaign, the trust hopes to raise $100,000 to support its conservation work and day-to-day operations.

Director of Development Clementra McCoy explains how the campaign connects donors to the cause, which kicked off on October 13.

“That gives us exactly 50 days for us to bring our parks to life in the memories and in the minds of our supporters, our donors, and the everyday person.”

McCoy says the money raised will provide flexible funding.

But she says the campaign is about more than the dollar amount. It’s about getting people personally invested in conservation.

“So Giving Tuesday is designed as unrestricted funds for the organization, meaning it goes towards our operations or anything that we need to have done throughout the year for the organization. At the end of the day, we want to make our parks relatable to our owners, to the visitors, and it’s not just about giving. It’s about allowing persons to align their values with our mission. We are the number one conservation entity here in The Bahamas, and so our goal is to make sure that we are preserving the parks, not just for today, but for the future as well.”

And while the fundraising goal is ambitious, the bigger picture is building momentum.

McCoy says the effort is meant to inspire people to keep supporting conservation into the future.

“We want this to be the springboard for which persons are coming in and seeing that they’re able to be a part of a bigger picture. So while the money is important, we want that to be 100,000 reasons for you to want to continue to give. So I don’t have a favourite, but I do have the mindset that we want to start 100,000 reasons for you to want to continue to see this conservation effort continued.”
