Google Maps Updates Gulf Of Mexico Name For U.S. Users

UNITED STATES – Google Maps now shows the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America for U.S. users.

The change came after the U.S. Interior Department updated its Geographic Names Information System, following President Trump’s executive order to “restore names that honor American greatness.”

Meanwhile, in Mexico, the app still displays Gulf of Mexico, and elsewhere, you’ll see it as Gulf of Mexico with Gulf of America in parentheses.

Mexico has slammed the renaming, arguing the U.S. lacks the authority to make the change.
