NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Wayde Watson, is brushing off East Grand Bahama MP Kwasi Thompson’s criticism of a recent IMF report, which shows the Bahamian economy is improving.

The opposition’s shadow finance minister slammed the Davis administration, accusing it of what he describes as an “economic PR campaign,” based on what he called paper-thin numbers, numbers he says don’t reflect the high cost of living and the daily financial burdens Bahamians face.

But Watson is pushing back, questioning how the opposition can be negative despite a positive economic outlook.

Wayde Watson – Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Finance:
“We know that tourists frequently want Wi-Fi access to navigate new locales, find shops and restaurants, browse social media, make contact with friends and family, or complete assignments. This turnkey solution offers seamless connectivity in the downtown area, enabling tourists to easily navigate and access local information to improve their overall experiences.”

Watson also says the government continues to address longstanding financial challenges.

Earlier this week, The Tribune also reported that The Bahamas could escape proposed U.S. port fee increases, a rare win, as small, developing nations face pressures from the ongoing global trade war.
