CUBA – Rare protests in Cuba turned violent over the weekend as frustration over blackouts and food shortages spilled into the streets.

State media says a demonstration in the city of Morón began peacefully Friday night before escalating into unrest early Saturday.

Videos verified by Reuters show protesters lighting fires and throwing objects near a government building.

Public demonstrations remain uncommon in Cuba, where protests are technically allowed but lack clear legal guidelines.
