NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Economic Affairs Minister Michael Halkitis laying out the government’s position after the Petroleum Retailers Association foreshadowed that some action could come soon.

Speaking in the Senate Thursday evening Halkitis says the government is sympathetic to the Association’s plea.

Economic Affairs Minister Michael Halkitis making government’s position clear after The Bahamas Petroleum Retailers Association held a meeting Wednesday saying they reached an agreement on action they will take in response to the lack of response from government.

The association is requesting a change in the margin which dictates the level of profits they earn.

Retailers earn 54 cents on a gallon of gasoline.

Wrapping up the Mid-Year Budget debate in the Senate, Halkitis invited the association to continue the discussion.

The association has not said what their action will look like.

Halkitis says the government is sympathetic to their plea.
