NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who robbed a cashier at gunpoint has been jailed for six years.

Demetrius Barlett received the sentence after admitting to robbing Joe Food Mart in Freeport, Grand Bahama of $1, 039.51

Bartlett, who was jobless, devised a plan with two others to rob the business after he found a gun in July 2023.

He pulled the gun on the pregnant cashier while posing as a customer.

After the robbery, Bartlett and his two accomplices split the money and he went to Abaco.
He eventually turned himself in and was arrested and charged.

In passing sentence, Justice Andrew Forbes said that Bartlett’s early guilty plea was to his benefit. However, he noted that Bartlett threatened a pregnant woman while armed with a deadly weapon.

Bartlett’s sentence takes effect from August 2, 2023.
