HAITI – Haiti’s cholera outbreak is worsening with confirmed cases topping 700. Confirmed deaths also hitting 161, with Pan American Health Organization officials investigating another 7,000 suspected cases.

PAHO Head Carissa Etienne says half a million people were at risk of contracting cholera.

The United Nations is appealing for nearly $150 million in aid to help stop the spread.

The outbreak started in October with two cases in Port-au-Prince. Prior to that, there had not been any cases for more than three years.
