HAITI – Haitian officials are calling for faster deployment of the gang suppression force to help curb gang violence and restore state authority in the crisis-stricken nation.

Special Representative for the Gang Suppression Force, Jack Christofides, recently told the council the mission was in a critical, early phase.

Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé said the transition government’s priorities were restoring state authority, protecting the population, and preparing for a return to constitutional order through elections.

Council members acknowledged signs of progress, but said serious challenges remained.
