NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The crisis in Haiti getting a lot of time and focus from CARICOM leaders.

An ongoing investigation in the United States revealed a chilling plot by American interests in South Florida to assassinate President Jovenel Moïsse leading to four arrests is a sign of progress toward justice, according to Haitian President Ariel Henry.

He tells Our News justice is critical for both countries.

A decades-old fragile peace between rival gangs disintegrated into often murderous violence, almost immediately leading to food and fuel shortages, sparking a cholera health crisis and restarting a vexing migration issue.

The images of boatloads of Haitian refugees, the staggering costs to repatriate them, the legal wrangling over shanty towns and more. Recently the contentious demonstrations over illegal migrants has cast an uncomfortable spotlight on the issue for Bahamians.

President Henry struck a sympathetic tone when asked to respond.

While here, the Haitian prime minister spoke to his CARICOM colleagues about the need for more police and food security, elections, and the sanctions imposed on gang leaders and those involved in the violence.
