HAITI – The U.N. Security Council has approved a new gang suppression force for Haiti, aimed at taking on groups that now control about 90 percent of the capital.

The force will have more than 5,000 personnel and a year-long mandate – but funding and deployment details remain unclear.

Haitians who’ve lost homes and loved ones say they hope this mission will be different as U.S. officials promise a swift rollout.
