GRAND BAHAMA – Grand Bahama contenders fell hard on Day 3 of the 42nd Hugh Campbell Basketball Tournament at the AF Adderley Gymnasium.
The GBSSAA champion, St George’s Jaguars were upset 64-55 by the BAISS runners-up C.W. Saunders Cougars. It was the Cougars’ second win of the day after beating ISBET 49-35.
Meanwhile, Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves’ Head Coach, Denycko Bowles, returned to the sidelines amid an ongoing legal dispute with the GSSSA.
After being suspended by the league for use of ineligible players – Bowles filed an application for leave for judicial review in the supreme court of The Bahamas against President Vandyke Bethel and the GSSSA, Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, Glenys Hanna-Martin, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Mario Bowleg, and Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Senator Ryan Pinder.
He’s now back on the sidelines and led his team to a 45-34 win over Agape Christian School out of Abaco.
The GBSSAA runners-up, Sunland Stingers also stumbled in their tournament debut, falling 52-30 to the Westminster Diplomats.
Even the defending champions, Tabernacle Falcons were pushed to the limit, escaping with a narrow 38-37 win over Teleos Christian School.
Several high-profile programs find themselves on the brink of elimination – it’s now win or go home, a bit sooner than we expected.
