JAMAICA – The Jamaican police SWAT teams were called in to give cover over the demolition of an illegal shanty town Wednesday.

It happened on the outskirts of Clifton in Portmore in St. Catherine’s, Jamaica.

Under what was described as, “significant security presence” the homes were destroyed.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness announcing the action in the house of representatives
this week.

He claims a criminal gang captured the land and were fraudulently. The lands are reportedly owned by the government.

The now-displaced residents tell the Jamaica Gleaner they are homeless. Some claim to have lived there upwards of 15 years.

Some claim they paid large amounts for lots they now do not own.
