NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Chief Parliamentary Clerk Maurice Tynes says he believes house speakers should resign from their parties when appointed to the post.

Tynes says the resignation at the least would give the image of independence.

Under former house speaker Halson Moultrie, Tynes was vocal in expressing his disagreement with a number of his decisions and his actions towards the then opposition.

He says he believes house speaker Patricia Deveaux is doing better, adding that she was put in a difficult position being a first-time parliamentarian.
