How a Canadian Company is Transforming Family Island Energy

FAMILY ISLANDS – It’s no secret that sunlight can help produce sustainable and environmentally friendly energy, and one company hopes solar power will help address energy issues in the Family Islands.

The government recently signed a $45 million agreement for a Bahamian-Canadian solar partnership to provide solar energy to Cat Island, Long Island and San Salvador.

Canadian energy company Roswall is leading the technical side.

“Roswall was founded by a goal to help further energy in our province of Nova Scotia on the east coast of Canada, to export the experience that we have in Nova Scotia in transitioning to renewable energy to places that desperately need it, like The Bahamas.”

Roscoe explained how sunlight is converted into energy.

“Battery systems are quickly changing the way that we produce electricity. They are faster and better in almost every aspect. Fossil fuel counterparts, along with solar, combine very powerful electricity and reliable electricity sources.”

Earlier this year, the Davis administration released a comprehensive energy report launching its energy reform.

The government has also partnered with several international companies, with Roswall being the latest.

Roscoe addressed speculation surrounding partnerships like this.

“Not only have we focused on adoption of energy and the local resources that we have, both in Nova Scotia, Canada, and in The Bahamas, our great benefits of developing those resources should stay here. That should stay local.”
