FLORIDA – As the death toll in Florida rises, rescuers carry out a desperate search for survivors from deadly Hurricane Ian.

The unofficial death toll is around 80. More than half of those victims are from Lee County, where the category four storm made landfall.

President Joe Biden heads to the area on Wednesday as criticism mounts over advanced warnings to evacuate issued less than 24 hours “before” Ian’s landfall on September 27th.

Nearby counties were evacuating a day before that. The sheriff’s department is on record standing by its decision.

Ian is already shaping up to be the deadliest hurricane in recent U.S. history; it pales in comparison to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

More than half a million people remain without power across the state.
