Husband And Wife Team Up To Make The Perfect Hot Cross Buns

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Hot cross buns are more than just a seasonal treat.

For one couple in the capital, they’ve become an easter tradition.

Today we rolled up our sleeves and joined them in the kitchen to find out what all goes into making the sweet, spiced buns.

When easter rolls around, so do the orders, for a large number of hot cross buns at Sweet Ting In Da Can.

Husband and wife duo, Prestina and Lemero Wright say what started as something small has risen into a full-blown baking business.

Here is what they had to say during the experience.

“All week peeping trying to get the products, some places don’t have the products so it was a lil hard and last night get up from 4 o’clock clock and still at it”

The process includes, kneading the dough, baking and glazing.

They also taught us how to correctly glaze the buns as they came fresh out of the oven.

And even with the long hours and flour-covered countertops.

The couple say the long hours in the kitchen are always worth it as they enjoy each others company.

“When were in the kitchen….she’s the main baker, I’m just the apprentice…learning”

There were a range of flavors offered, plain, guava, coconut and raisin…and this year they baked some 100 buns.

“We received a lot of orders and the response from the community has been good because just now he just deliver some orders and one of the customers who normally order from us let another customer taste it who never taste it again now she wants to place orders today”

So, will they be back at it next year? We Hope!
