NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Students have gathered from across the country for a forum on climate change this week.

Students and young people from as far north as Grand Cahama and as far south as Mayaguana gathering at the University of The Bahamas Performing Arts Centre over the next two days for The Bahamas Youth Climate Conference to discuss topics like sustainable agriculture, waste management, and even a youth in action policy drafting session for COP28.

Minister of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Family Island Affairs Clay Sweeting, was particularly excited by the variety of Family Island participants.

Lauralee Macintosh is a geography teacher at Abaco’s S. E. Bootle High School and says the importance to her students is two-fold.

While one of the first topics of the morning covered why climate change matters, many of the students already feel the urgency of the situation.
