NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Immigration officers dragged a disabled Jamaican man across Shirley Street on Wednesday as they re-arrested him after a judge ordered his immediate release.

A video of Jarvon Green’s arrest has gone viral on social media.

Officers grabbed Green, who’s confined to a wheelchair, soon after Justice Dale Fitzpatrick ordered his release after finding his detention was unlawful.

Green, who’s in The Bahamas illegally, was convicted of causing dangerous harm in 2019 and sentenced to eight years in prison.

Green’s sentenced ended on February 7 and three days later Immigration Minister Alfred Sears signed a deportation order.

However, authorities were unable to send Green back to Jamaica before the order expired on May 11.

As a result, his lawyer Martin filed a habeas corpus application as Green remained in custody.

Justice Fitzpatrick said,“The authority to detain under the Immigration Act is contingent upon the deportation order being valid. As such, the detention of Mr. Green cannot be supported and he is ordered released immediately
