NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Two immigration officers have been charged with accepting bribes to allow three Jamaican nationals to extend their stay in the country.

Chief Immigration Officer Wyberg Brown, 50, Immigration Officer Thorn Curry, 30, are charged along with 31-year-old civilian Avery Francis.

The men are accused of accepting on October 11 bribes so that Shakera Anderson, Sasha Burke and Sashane Thomas could get extensions without going through the proper channels. They denied these accusations at an arraignment before Senior Magistrate Shaka Serville and they were each granted $4,000 bail.

The accused return to court on November 21 for trial.

A fourth defendant, Jennifer Ann McKennis, a 53-year-old Jamaican national, was arraigned earlier this month on allegations that she paid bribes to obtain the extensions. She’s free on $7,000 bail.
