Inland Revenue Targeting Chronic Delinquents, Says Minister

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Minister of Economic Affairs, Michael Halkitis, clarifying a recent notice from the Department of Inland Revenue which revealed that come June, the department will begin to enforce its right to the power of sale targeting “The most egregious offenders” when it comes to unpaid real property tax.

Halkitis noting that as of May 18th, the real property delinquency figure stood at more than 820,000.

He says there may have been some misconceptions that the government will be coming after Bahamian homeowners.

He says this new initiative mainly targets chronic delinquents.
