“It Feels Unreal”: Fire Destroys Popular Arawak Cay Bar

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Anthony Saunders “ We close up, um, Saturday night, early Sunday morning, 2 a. m. Um, everything was fine I got a call at 6.40 in the morning that the place is on fire.”

Anthony Saunders, “First it feels unreal, maybe they mistaken the, the location, the place. So, I said, let me just come out and really see if it’s really The Bay Lounge.”

The restaurant had only been open at that location for two years.

Before it was transformed into ‘the bay’ it was Junkanoo village.

Over the last 24 months, it became a popular spot for entertainers, promoters, and socialites.

We even featured a story on the popular spot last April.

They have 32 staff members, who now face uncertainty in the wake of this tragedy.

Anthony Saunders, “ We’ve been open and closed and just fully renovated. Um, so since we came back from renovation, people have been loving the spot. They really fall in love with the spot. “

Saunders says he’s been overwhelmed by the hundreds of messages he’s received on social media.

Despite the setback, saunders is optimistic and determined to rebuild bigger and better.

Anthony Saunders, “ When I first got this place, I had to tweak this into making it comfortable, but now I feel like I can now really do what I really, wanted to do with it and make it even more better for the public and make them fall in love with it all over again”

While they pick up the pieces, Saunders says they have something planned for faithful followers.

Anthony Saunders, “t his Sunday as we open the bay beach side is right to the left-hand side of the property so we looking to open that Sunday 1 p. m. Come out, support us and so we’re going to be operating out there until we get this back up and running here.”
