ABACO, BAHAMAS – Light the Torch, the Elbow Reef Lighthouse on Hope Town, Abaco now officially reopened.

Following major damage as a result of Hurricane Dorian in 2019, the United States government gave the Elbow Reef Lighthouse Society a grant of over $470,000 for repairs.

For U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Usha Pitts, the project is a personal one.

The sleek lighthouse which serves as the only hand-operated kerosine-fueled lighthouse in the world, stands 120 feet above sea level, with 101 steps, and shines up to 17 miles at sea.

For the society responsible for keeping the house, it’s on to the next step.
