NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 29-year-old Jamaican man has appeared in court charged with murder, armed robbery, and arson.

Prosecutors say Cyril Soltau murdered Johnson Joseph during an armed robbery at a grocery store last month and set the place afire.

On February 13, police responded to a structural fire at Windsor Lane.

After the blaze was put out, they found Johnson Joseph bound at the hands and feet with multiple stab wounds about his body.

Prosecutors allege that Soltau, while armed with a knife, robbed Joseph of liquor and other items.

He’s also accused unlawfully setting the building that belongs to Kenneth Donathan and Fredrick Donathan afire.

Soltau didn’t have to enter pleas to the charges when he stood before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.

Bail was denied and Soltau returns to court on May 29 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.

Last month, Soltau was sentenced to six months in prison for overstaying and attempting to escape from police custody while at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
