NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Police are paying close attention to the number of stolen Japanese vehicles, that uptick is glaringly obvious in daily crime reports issued by police.

They show an average 1-2 cars stolen each day, from Nissan Notes, Juke, Cube, Honda Fit, and Toyota Passo.

They’ve become favorites for thieves, many of them used in murders and armed robberies.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Janet Mckenzie, says you should be on your guard.

While last year’s crime stats don’t specify how many Japanese vehicles were stolen.

Overall, carthefts increased by 53% with 392 incidents, compared to 257 in 2023.

Only 50% of vehicles stolen for that year were recovered.

The majority of cars stolen were stolen in southern New Providence.

So what’s being done to curb this?

Mckenzie says, “We have from the police standpoint ongoing patrols. We are employing CCTV on technologies and of course you the public help us with giving us information with what you’ve seen and we respond accordingly.”
