Expectations loom large for Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty as the 2024 WNBA season gets underway.

We can yada yada over a forgettable first preseason game last night, but the Liberty are expected to once again contend for a return trip to the WNBA finals.

Entering her second season in New York, Jones said she and the other members of the roster are more comfortable in the system.

A productive training camp has set the tone for what is expected to be a deep postseason run.

In the first preseason game, Jones and the starters played sparingly in a 101-53 loss to the Chicago Sky. She finished with 5 points and 4 rebounds in 18 minutes.

The Liberty will play the final preseason game tomorrow night against Jones’ former team, the Connecticut Sun.

New York will open the regular season Tuesday night on the road against the Washington Mystics.
