GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Jonquel Jones is now in New Providence but not before she had a massive celebration in the nation’s second city yesterday. Our Sasha Lightbourne was in Grand Bahama for all the celebrations and fanfare and filed this report.

It was a scene like none other once things got underway from the Grand Bahama Sports Complex. No doubt, the perfect venue to celebrate the 2024 WNBA Finals MVP. .

For those who may not know, Jonquel Jones was born and raised in Grand Bahama, more specifically in Holmes Rock and that’s where the motorcade, which was planned to celebrate Jones’ MVP and the New York Liberty’s 2024 championship, would end.

Two billboards were unveiled in the area as well – one at the entrance of Eight Mile Rock and the second in Holmes Rock.

Kingsley Smith, who represents the area where JJ grew up, shares a personal connection with JJ and her family.

Youth, Sports and Culture Minister Mario Bowleg and Minister for Grand Bahama Ginger Moxey also expressed their congratulations.

Now celebrations will continue in New Providence tomorrow. At 3:45pm there is a junkanoo rushout planned for the Queen Elizabeth Sports Center, that will be followed by festivities over at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
