Jonquel Jones and the Liberty played a rematch of Sunday’s blowout of the Las Vegas Aces last night for the Commissioner’s Cup.

They showed that Sunday was not a fluke.

Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty cemented their status as the WNBA’s best team last night as they knocked off the defending champs to win the Commissioner’s Cup 82-63 handing them their first home loss of the season.

JJ walked away with the MVP thanks to a 15-point, 16-rebound night.

Top scorers Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart had a rough night on offense but it didn’t matter with JJ patrolling in the paint because she anchored a tenacious Liberty defense that gave up a stingy 33% shooting night to the team with the best record in the league.

She also guarded reigning finals MVP Aja Wilson to a miserable 2/9 shooting night.

Marine Johannes led the Liberty in scoring off the bench with 17 points.

The Liberty beat the Aces on Sunday running and gunning. Last night’s game was a grit and grind defensive struggle and they were able to prevail here as well.

They’re the favorites to win the championship by a mile.

Congratulations to JJ and the Liberty.

I have a feeling they’ll see the Aces again.

Moving into the diamond.

Jazz Chisholm picked up a couple of hits last night for Miami.

Jazz Chisholm went 2-4 last night as his Miami Marlins narrowly lost to the Houston Astros 6-5.

Jazz hit a single and a triple, showing off his electrifying speed on the bags to score twice and put the Marlins up 4-2.

Unfortunately for him and the Marlins, the Astros would mount a rally, taking their final lead in the 7th.
