NEW YORK, UNITED STATES – Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty started off this season the same way they ended the last one, with a win.

After hoisting the franchise’s first-ever championship banner and receiving their rings, the Liberty opened the season with a 92-78 win over the Las Vegas Aces.

JJ had 17 points on 6-12 shooting from the field, a team-high 10 rebounds, and 6 assists.

She also two blocks and three steals, anchoring a Liberty defense that held the aces to 34 percent shooting for the game.

Also for the Liberty, Breanna Stewart had 25 points and 8 rebounds and the team’s newest addition, Natasha Cloud, had 22 points and 9 assists.

JJ had her hands full guarding reigning unanimous MVP, Aja Wilson of the aces, who had 33 points and 16 rebounds.

Despite Wilson’s big night, the Liberty led for most of the game.
