NASSAU, BAHAMAS – We’re still a few weeks away from competition at the 2025 FIBA Americup and Bahamas basketball prepares to take on one of its toughest fields ever in international competition.
Kai Jones has committed to join the Americup roster for Team Bahamas when they take on the region, August 22-31 in Managua, Nicaragua.
Team Bahamas was drawn into group a alongside the United States, Brazil, and Uruguay.
They will open competition against the United States on August 23, and complete the second night of a back-to-back against Brazil on August 24.
In game three they face Uruguay on August 26.
The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals.
Jones, currently a free agent, has previously suited up for the senior men’s national team at the 2023 World Cup qualifiers, where he averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds per game, and most recently at this year’s Americup qualifiers where he averaged 14 points and 8 rebounds per game.
Aside from the national team announcement and rushing on bay, Kai Jones has joined community outreach efforts at home this summer.
He headlined the basketball segment of the Mirror Mirror mentorship sports arts and technology program’s “Survival Week” Monday at the A.F. Adderley Gymnasium.
The program brings together teenage boys from the Ranfurly Home and Elizabeth Estates Children’s Home into a week of various sports, technology and survival training.
Minor League Baseball
Kristian Robinson took another step toward the major leagues.
The Arizona Diamondbacks prospect was promoted to triple‑a with the Reno Aces and had immediate impact on the lineup.
In his aces debut, Robinson went 2‑3 in a 6‑2 win over the Oklahoma City Comets.
It extended his current hit streak to six games dating back to his time in aa with the Amarillo Sod Poodles.
Robinson is hitting .254, with 11 home runs, 38 RBI, 25 stolen bases and a .802 ops this season.
Sailing
Bahamian sailors recently wrapped up competition at the 2025 ILCA 4 Youth World Championships in Los Angeles, California.
Headlining the group, Eliza Denning finished 11th out of 100 competitors, including a first‑place win in race 10.
It was the best finish ever for a Bahamian at the event.
Among the boys, John Alexiou was 73rd, Nash Cartwright, was 114th, and Armaan Manwatkar finished 122nd.
Next up, six Bahamians are competing at the ILCA 6 Youth Worlds which begins today and runs through August 4.
