NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A judge has declared a woman’s marriage to a Haitian man null and void.

Talia Destiny Duncombe learned of her marriage to Myrtho Noel when she tried to register the birth of her daughter in October 2020.

That’s when Duncombe was told that she had married Noel at the Office of the Registrar General in ceremony performed by Assistant Registrar Dellareese Grant.

Despite records of Duncombe’s purported marriage, officers could not find a marriage license or an application for a marriage application.

Acting Supreme Court Justice Carla Card-Stubbs found that the assistant registrar didn’t perform a marriage between Duncombe and Noel on July 12, 2019.

As a result, the judge ordered Registrar General Camille Gomez-Jones to delete the marriage entry from the records.

Stubbs said Duncombe is at liberty to pursue damages and costs.
