NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who was beaten by police during his arrest has been granted $4,000 bail on a theft charge.


A video of two police officers body slamming and stomping Ronald Telfort on Wulff Road on January 24 has gone viral on social media.


Telfort pleaded not guilty to charges of stealing, receiving stolen property and causing damage at his arraignment before Magistrate Kendra Kelly.


Prosecutors allege that Telfort stole a 2001 Honda CRV l, valued at $5,000, belonging to Jonicka Fernander from a home on Moss Road.


Officers on patrol allegedly spotted the stolen vehicle on and tried to stop it.


Telfort is accused of causing $1,115 in damage to the stolen vehicle after it crashed during the police pursuit that followed.


Telfort’s trial is set for April 11.
