KENYA – Kenyan President William Ruto, in a televised address on Thursday, dismissed nearly all cabinet ministers and the attorney general amid widespread protests over high taxes and governance issues.

He vowed to form a leaner and more efficient government, led by permanent secretaries, after consulting broadly with the public.

The unrest, sparked by a controversial finance bill, resulted in protests and calls for Ruto’s resignation, claiming over 30 lives.

Ruto cited the need for radical reforms to tackle debt, boost domestic resources, create jobs, and combat corruption.
