Authorities say the Hughes fire, fueled by strong winds and dry brush, has rapidly consumed more than 9,400 acres in just hours.

Over 31,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders, with another 23,000 on high alert.

Officials warn of an “immediate threat to life”, while Southern California remains under extreme fire risk.
