Lamar Sets National Record at Short Course World Championships

BUDAPEST – Bahamas Aquatics fielded a four member team for the World Aquatics short course championships in Budapest, Hungary – but it’s been the Lamar Taylor show thus far with multiple national records swims.

Taylor set a new national record in the men’s 50 back with his time of 23.51 seconds.

This follows  Taylor’s national record swim in the 50 fly in 23.24 seconds.

The grad transfer for the Tennessee Volunteers also swam 46.34 seconds in the 100 free.

Also competing for Team Bahamas, Cornell Freshman Emmanuel Gadson swam 28.97 seconds in the 50m breast and 1:00.42 seconds in the 100 breast.

TCU sophomore and Olympian Rhanishka Gibbs swam 34.13 seconds in the 50 breast and 1:14.99 seconds in the 100 breast.

Baseball

A staple of the Don’t Blink Home Run Derby in Paradise weekend, the organization hosted another edition of its youth camp for aspiring players. 

Scores of participants turned out to the Andre Rodgers National Stadium Wednesday afternoon to meet the visiting players and learn various  elements of the game.

Event organisers Todd Isaacs Jr and Lucius Fox  were joined by other local minor leaguers, international prospects, and other personalities/ within the game.

Isaacs said the event gave the players an opportunity to give back to the community and interact with the young group of players. 

The MLB Players Alliance and minority baseball were key sponsors of the camp and the youth development aspect of the weekend.

Fox said he considers the youth camp one of the most important aspects of derby week.

NBA

Buddy Hield continues to reach milestones as an elite shooter and solidifies himself as one of the best to ever do it in the NBA.

Hield became just the 17th player in nba history to reach 2,000 career regular-season threes.

In Wednesday night’s matchup against the Houston Rockets, Hield’s first three of the game, which came in the third quarter –  gave him the milestone.

Hield is now the 17th player to reach the mark, joining nine other active players  – Eric Gordon, Kevin Durant, Kyle Lowry, Paul George, Lebron James, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, James Harden, and Stephen Curry.

Hield scored 15 points in Thursday night’s 91-90 loss on the road to the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center in Houston.

He got off to a blistering hot start in his first season with the Warriors and through 24 games is averaging 14.5 points per game and shooting 43 percent from three point range.

Basketball

The Wednesday night lineup in Spain’s Feb Segunda, featured a head to head matchup between a pair of Bahamian rookies.

Garvin Clarke and Godella basket came out with a 76 – 72 victory over Franco Miller Jr. FIBWI Palma.

Clarke finished the night with 15 points, 5 assist, while Miller Jr had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assist.
