NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Greek Festival, a bi-annual event, is one that thousands of locals and guests look forward to, held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

This was my first time ever attending, and I was extremely impressed by the rich display of Greek traditions.

After receiving a lesson about the faith, we were compelled by the aroma of flavors that filled the air.

With an abundance of food at every turn, we decided to indulge in a Greek hamburger, Geek fries and an imported German beer.

Then there was the entertainment, where we danced to the sounds of this year’s band Onerio.

The band, visiting from Detroit, fought a snow storm to get to The Bahamas.

In the midst of the fun, there is also a level of dedication exhibited by the community to ensure the event is a success.

Zach Lyons, one of the organizers for the festival, tells us that this experience takes nearly a year of preparation.

The goal he says, is to strengthen the community and harvest for an appreciation of Greek culture.
