UNITED STATES – Harsh weather is shifting west as a polar vortex gears up to grip the Rockies and northern Plains.

After deadly storms in the eastern U.S. Killed at least 10 people, with nine in Kentucky from flooding, a life-threatening cold is expected into Tuesday.

The national weather service warns northeastern Montana could see temperatures as low as 45°F below zero, with similar deadly wind chills in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota.

In Kentucky, severe floods have forced over 1,000 rescues and led to a disaster declaration, while parts of Atlanta, Virginia, and West Virginia are also battling the effects.

Meanwhile, nearly century-old infrastructure in southwest Detroit burst, submerging streets, this as avalanche warnings have been issued across the rockies.
