NASSAU, BAHAMAS – International videographer and YouTuber Datrick Davis, known for his travel channel Where2Next, usually documents adventures featuring himself and his wife. But in his latest video, a special guest took the spotlight, his mom.

Davis says his mother, Wonda Jones, like many mothers, has spent her life on a hamster wheel of work and home, rarely taking time to explore the world outside her home state, until he gifted her with her first vacation.

“It started last year. I finally got her to take her first flight, from Atlanta, Georgia, to Los Angeles. Her first flight was a long one, and she handled it really well. She even teared up. But afterward, I think it worked, because when we came back she said, ‘I’m ready for the next one.’ And after that, I said, ‘Okay, we’re going on a cruise.’”

That cruise brought them to The Bahamas, Wonda’s first time traveling internationally.

Davis admits that gifts like these take money and strategic planning. However, he doesn’t see them as expenses. Instead, he encourages viewers to give their mothers the gift of rest or an experience that creates lasting memories.

He says the joy he sees radiating from his mother’s face fills him with immense gratitude to be able to give her experiences that, at one time, he couldn’t even dream of.

“Even long before retirement, I’ve been pushing her to really enjoy each and every day. And don’t get me wrong, enjoying life doesn’t always mean traveling the world. It can simply mean doing something.”
