UNITED STATES – U.S House Representative Kevin McCarthy faces growing pressure to end the impasse over his imperiled speakership bid after two consecutive days of failed votes.

An 11th house speaker vote got underway earlier yesterday evening, making this the longest speaker contest in generations.

Mccarthy has continued to negotiate with a group of hardline republicans who’ve derailed his bid, proposing key concessions in his push to get more votes.

The house can not kick off the new congress or swear in new members until a speaker is elected.
