NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 23-year-of man is behind bars after he was accused of having unlawful sexual relationship with a child.

Prosecutors said Cecil Smith, of St James Road, had relations with the 14-year-old girl on December 19.

Since she is under the age of 16, the girl could not legally consent.

Police arrested Smith after he was found with the minor, whose parents reported her missing last month.

Smith was not required to enter a plea to the charge of unlawful sexual intercourse when he appeared before Magistrate Shaka Serville.

He was denied bail and is next expected to appear in court on March 31, 2023 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment.
