NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 39-year-old man accused of the first murder of the year is behind bars.

Latario Missick faced charges of murder and attempted murder when he made his first appearance before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.

Prosecutors say Missick fatally shot his stepson Rashad Sweeting and attempted to murder Douglas Cleare and Rashad Seymour as a result of a property dispute.

The charges stem from a shooting in Big Pond on January 18, 2025.

Prosecutors say the men were standing in front of Sweeting’s grandmother’s home when a gunman opened fire on them.

Missick didn’t have to enter pleas to the charges and was denied bail.

He returns to court on April 24 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.
