NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 30-year-old man is behind bars after being charged with killing a man after he left a popular restaurant.

Jonathan Davis, of Pastel Gardens, has been charged for the murder of Vantoi Bethune. He’s also accused of possession of an unlicensed .40mm pistol.

Prosecutors say Davis was one of two gunmen who ambushed Bethune in the parking lot across the street from the Solemar Restaurant on West Bay Street on December 23.

The assailants fled the scene in a red Mazda. They later ditched that car and got into a grey Honda Civic.

Police intercepted the car on Christie Avenue in Stapledon Gardens. They arrested Davis following a brief chase and allegedly recovered the firearm.

Davis didn’t have to enter pleas to the murder and firearm charges when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.

He’s next due to return to court on April 11 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.
