Man Convicted of Sodomizing Underage Niece

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 59-year-old has been remanded to prison to await sentencing after he was convicted of sodomizing a 10-year-old girl in his care.

The man identified by the initials RH was convicted of crimes that happened in January and February of 2023.

Jurors heard how the man and his wife became the child’s guardians after her mother died.
The convict’s wife is the child’s maternal aunt.

The girl alleged that her uncle-in-law physically and sexually abused her.

The abuse was reported in February 2023 after the girl confided in her classmates, who alerted a guidance counselor, who called the police.

The child was also examined by a doctor.

The jury unanimously rejected the man’s denials and convicted him of three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a dependent child following a trial before Justice Dale Fitzpatrick.

A sentencing hearing is set for August 15.
