Man Facing Second Trial Over Deadly April 2025 Collision

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man is facing a second trial for a deadly collision after the Court of Appeal overturned a judge’s decision to tell a jury to acquit him.

The high court found that Justice Neil Brathwaite was wrong when he found that Delmaro Johnson didn’t have a case to answer concerning the April 23, 2025 death of Timothy Stubbs.

Prosecutors alleged that Johnson was driving along Carmichael Road on April 21, when his Honda Pilot veered into the path of a Nissan Cube that Stubbs was driving, causing a head-on crash.

Johnson blamed his then-girlfriend, Kiara Murphy, for causing the collision when she grabbed the steering wheel while they were arguing.

Murphy pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter at the close of the prosecution’s case.

She was sentenced to eight months in prison and ordered to pay $20,000 in compensation to Stubbs’ estate.
