NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who was shot while trespassing on the prison compound in the wee hours of the morning has pleaded guilty.

Thirty-three-year-old Dwayne Forbes was on crutches when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley on charges of trespassing and taking prohibited articles into a correctional facility.

Prosecutors say Forbes was caught on the prison compound by an officer on patrol at around 3am on July 14.

They allege that he stashed two bottles of prescription cough medicine on the prison’s grounds.

While Forbes admitted to trespassing, he denied bringing the medicine into the prison.

Magistrate Reckley adjourned the matter to October 28 for trial and he’s put off sentencing on the trespassing charges until the trial is done.

Forbes has been granted $5,000 bail.
