NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Will Bahamians soon say goodbye to the mask mandate? The move is still on the radar of the Davis administration says Health Minister Dr. Michael Darville, who like the prime minister, is pushing for higher vaccination rates.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, residents have been forced to wear masks as a form of protection. Three years later many are ready to make masks a thing of the past.

The Davis administration is still considering the move. That’s according to Health Minister Dr. Michael Darville who says this could become a reality by the end of the year once 70 percent of the population is vaccinated.

Prime Minister Philip Davis was the first to mention the removal of the mask mandate back in May.

While a decision on the matter has not been made. Officials believe that current mask protocols should remain in place until the country is considered to be out of the woods from COVID-19.

Currently, people are not required to wear a mask while in a lobby, corridor or casino of a hotel or in an outdoor setting where there is at least three feet of space between people who are not of the same household.

But, mask wearing is still largely required indoors.

The health minister is encouraging persons to get fully vaccinated, and boosted to achieve the intended target by year end.
